The eCT received word this weekend that the venerable Frater CD, Barry Salkilld, head of the Sydney based Order Of The Golden Phoenix has made his last journey across the desert abyss of Arabah, and passed away on Saturday, 17th January at 8.10 am EST.

I first became aware of Barry as a teenager when I borrowed a copy of Drury & Tillets “Other Temples, Other Gods - The Occult in Australia”, which related the history of the Order he founded in 1970’s and his personal spiritual journey.

In much later years, I was fortunate to meet Frater CD and his brethren in the Golden Phoenix, and kindly invited to participate in the occasional ritual at the magnificant temple in Summer Hill in Sydney. He was a very kind soul, but with a certain ratbag streak about him that made him a very down to earth character.

The path Frater CD laid down in Australia for ceremonial magicians should not be underestimated, with many occultists, visual artists and equally quirky esoteric characters having passed through the Golden Phoenix over the years.

Every Man and Every Woman is a Star, and there is certainly a bright new one, shining in the Constellations.

The New Harran Sanctuary of the Guardians of Grace, Blessing & Sustenance, based in Adelaide - South Australia, is opening its doors to up to locally-based prospective students for a 12 month Elementary Course in Technical Mysticism. The face to face course will cover qabalah, meditation, ritual and philosophy, with a view to these students potentially being invited as ongoing members of the Order. The material derives from qabalistic traditions different to those found underpinning Golden Dawn and Thelemic currents and distinct to much published in popular qabalistic books.

While we are open to applicants of varying levels of experience, from the novice to the well seasoned traveller, this is not a course for the curious, but for those ready to take a step of dedication.

Applicants may be subject to an informal interview in order to gauge compatibility to the Intentions and philosophy of the Order.
